Definitions of the most commonly used terms in the game of blackjack. |
Bankroll: The total amount of money a player has to play with.
Betting Limits: The minimum and maximum bets you can make at a table.
Blackjack: When the first 2 cards total 21, e.g Ace and Queen, or Ace and Ten. Also known as a Natural
Bust: When the total hand value goes over 21, you lose the hand.
Chips: Used to bet with and indicate the amount you are wagering.
Double Down: Option to double your bet and receive only 1 more card.
Early Surrender: Chance to surrender before the dealer checks for blackjack.
Face Cards: Jack, Queen and King
Hit: When you want to be dealt another card.
Insurance: A side bet, betting the dealer has a blackjack. You get this option when the dealer upcard is an ace.
Late Surrender: Chance to surrender after the dealer has checked for blackjack.
Odds:The mathematical chances an outcome will occur.
Pair: When dealt 2 cards the same, e.g 66, or QQ
Pass: When you want to not play a hand or not take another an alternative option, e.g insurance.
Push: Dealer and player have same value cards, its a tie.
Rebet: Online casino option to simply rebet the same amount as you did in your last hand.
Soft hand: A hand value that contains an ace which can be counted as a 1 or 11 without taking the total over 21.
Stand: Is to stop the hand, you are telling the dealer you don't want anymore cards.
Stiff hand: Blackjack hand values from 12-16
Surrender: An option to give up your first 2 cards and lose only half your orginal bet.
Twenty One / 21: 3 or more cards that total 21.
Up card: The dealer card which is dealt face up.
