Double Down in Online Blackjack
When dealt your first 2 cards one of the options you will be given is to "double down".
This gives you the option of doubling your bet and receiving only 1 more card. You have to take one more card, you can't double your bet and stand.
Exact rules for when you will be given the option of doubling down varies, e.g some offer only if your hand value is 9, 10 or 11. Most online casinos will automatically give you the option every hand, also online casinos only double your bet, whereas in a live casino you would get the option to bet less than your orginal bet, this is known as "double down for less" The more options you are given to double down the better as you can use this option to your advantage and increase your long term profits.
So when is it best to use the double down? When your hand is strong and one more card will give you a very good chance of beating the dealer. You would always double down if your hand totalled 11, and the vast majority of the time if your hand totals 10.
